Korean inheritance tax estimate before credits

    About this tool

This Korea-focused inheritance-tax worksheet estimates a limited pre-credit amount, not a filing-ready liability. It subtracts entered qualifying liabilities from estate assets, subtracts a separately verified allowance total, and applies the progressive tax bands coded into the calculator to the resulting taxable base. It does not determine which heirs qualify for deductions, the spouse allowance, gifts added back to the estate, overseas assets, valuation disputes or filing credits. Verify the current rules and applicability with the National Tax Service before using any number in a return.

How the calculation works and limitations

Progressive inheritance tax on user-verified taxable estate net of verified allowances. Other heirs, estate additions, spouse deductions, and filing credits are not determined.

    Worked examples

Estate KRW 1,500,000,000; deductible liabilities KRW 100,000,000; verified allowance KRW 500,000,000

Net estate KRW 1,400,000,000; taxable base KRW 900,000,000; pre-credit estimate KRW 210,000,000

KRW 1.4 billion less the entered KRW 500 million allowance leaves KRW 900 million. The example applies the calculator's progressive bands, not an individualized tax ruling.

Estate KRW 700,000,000; deductible liabilities KRW 100,000,000; verified allowance KRW 500,000,000

Net estate KRW 600,000,000; taxable base KRW 100,000,000; pre-credit estimate KRW 10,000,000

The resulting KRW 100 million taxable base is multiplied by the calculator's first-band rate for this illustration.

    Questions & answers

Does the tool calculate which inheritance allowances I qualify for?

No. Enter only an independently verified allowance amount. Family status, estate structure, lifetime gifts and the applicable tax rules require separate review.

Is the displayed pre-credit estimate the amount I must pay?

No. Additional inclusions, exclusions, credits, filing and valuation requirements can change the actual Korean inheritance-tax calculation. Consult NTS guidance or a qualified adviser.
