2026 Korean Parental Leave: Dates, Pay, Return Day & Application Guide

A leave end date, the date you return to employment, the first weekday and the benefit claim deadline are different concepts. This guide shows how a 2026 Korean leave plan combines dates, benefit caps and a partner timeline.

How are the last leave day and the return day different?

Leave from November 1, 2026 for three calendar months ends January 31, 2027; the calendar return date is February 1. It is not correct to add 30 days for each calendar month.

A first scheduled workday depends on actual Korean holidays and employer shifts. The planner's weekday-only indication is not a certified return-to-work instruction.

What are the standard monthly benefit caps?

The regular South Korean scheme pays up to KRW 2.5m monthly at 100% of ordinary wage in months 1–3, 2m at 100% in months 4–6, and 1.6m at 80% from month 7. Claim eligibility and the minimum benefit require separate verification.

A KRW 3m ordinary monthly wage produces a standard three-month illustrative total of KRW 7.5m, before any parents-together recalculation.

When should an employer request or benefit claim be made?

The normal employer request should be submitted 30 days before the expected start. Employment-insurance benefit claims open after the first month and must generally be filed within 12 months after leave ends. Short leave has additional rules.

Check at least 180 employment-insurance qualifying days, a qualifying leave period of 30 days in total, and any exceptions in Work24's official guidance before filing.

How do you compare both parents' schedules?

Enter each parent's leave dates to identify overlap or a gap between the periods. Overlap days are useful for care planning but are not how the 6+6 benefit entitlement is measured.

Qualifying sequential use can count toward the parents-together scheme; verify both start dates relative to the child's 18-month age limit.

What must be checked before saving the plan?

Actual split leave usage, month-end calendar boundaries, partial-month benefits, company approvals and holiday schedules can differ from the example. Only completed whole months of previous leave are supported by this simplified planner.
