2026 South Korea Parental Leave Planner

Enter child birth date, planned leave periods and ordinary wages for both parents. The planner calculates calendar-based end and return dates, monthly standard or potential 6+6 benefits, remaining months, application deadlines and a simplified reduced-hours comparison. Based on 2026 South Korean private-sector rules, not a certified payment or legal eligibility decision.

    ② Partner leave & 6+6
③ Short leave & reduced hours

Short leave starts on or after Aug 20, 2026, only for qualifying childcare reasons and at most once per child per year. Reduced-hours pay assumes a standard 40-hour schedule.

Regular leave lasts up to 12 months, conditionally 18. The 6+6 benefit has separate requirements, including both parents starting while the child is under 18 months. Verify evidence of actual leave before an extension request.

    Worked examples

Child born 2026-04-15; employee leave 2026-11-01 for 3 months; no prior leave; monthly ordinary wage KRW 3,000,000

    Last leave day 2027-01-31; calendar return 2027-02-01; standard pay KRW 2,500,000 × 3 = KRW 7,500,000

Calendar months are not fixed 30-day intervals. A partner's eligible leave could change the 6+6 benefit assumption.

Both parents plan 3 months, each on a KRW 3,000,000 ordinary wage, with both starts before the child's 18-month boundary

    Conditional 6+6 estimate: KRW 2.5m, 2.5m and 3m per parent = KRW 8m each

Matching eligible months matter even if the parents' calendar leave periods do not overlap. Eligibility and retroactive payments must be validated on Work24.

    Questions & answers

Must both parents take leave at the same time for the 6+6 benefit?

No. Under the parents-together scheme, qualifying sequential use may be covered. Both starts must satisfy the child's age and other eligibility requirements.

Does every employee automatically get 18 months?

No. Extension requires actual prior leave by both parents or a qualifying statutory exception. Entering planned months is not proof of employer approval.

Does 7- or 14-day short leave count toward the overall entitlement?

Yes. A qualifying short leave uses part of the total leave allowance but is not counted against the ordinary split-use frequency.

Does the next weekday represent my guaranteed workday?

No. The calculation skips weekends only and cannot know Korean statutory holidays, substitute holidays or your workplace shifts.
